On Tuesday, April 23, 2013 students from Gateway Science Academy Middle/High School went to the St. Louis City Fire Department Headquarters. The four students, Abbi Nagl (6th), Halit Ozkaya (6th), Jacob Chancellor (8th) and Isaiah Merchant (9th), were the age division winners from last month’s Concept Science Fair. They met Chief Dennis Jenkerson who recognized them for their accomplishments and gave them a tour of the facility. The students learned about the job requirements of a firefighter as well as some history of the City of St. Louis. Chief Jenkerson emphasized the importance of math and science in the job of a firefighter. He encouraged the students to work hard and get as many degrees as they can.
