Apple Picking Field Trip

The 1st Graders went to Eckert’s Orchard in Millstadt, Illinois on Friday, September 28.  We began our journey in the orchard, picking Golden and Red Delicious apples.  Students learned the appropriate way to pick an apple without harming the tree.  We found out that tiny apples aren’t ripe!  They taste NASTY!  After filling our bags, we rode the tractors back to the farm area.

For many of our students, this was their first up close visit with live animals.  We fed and pet camels, sheep, donkeys, goats, etc.  Pig races were a very popular stop!  Some kids got to be official “squealers & rooters”!

The underground slide and corn maze provided fun for everyone!

When we returned from our trip, we made applesauce, apple pie and apple prints!

What a wonderful opportunity and experience for everyone!
