GSA Concert for Veteran Parents, 10/11/2011

The 7 and 8 Grade Combined Choir presented their firstconcert of the 2011 school year on Thursday, November 10th, 2011 at7:00pm in the GSA Gym under the direction of the GSA Music Teacher, KristeLudwig.  The Third Grade Class alsoperformed, however, the Third Grade has already performed two previous timesthis year.  The first concert was onOctober 1, in Lindenwood Park for the neighborhood celebration,”Linfest.”  The Third Grade also performed for Grandparents’ Day onSeptember 21 in the GSA Gym.

The November 10th, 2011 concert was presented asa tribute to our Nation’s Veterans.  The7 & 8 Grade Choir began the program with the “Star SpangledBanner.” They also performed “Let All Nation Sing” and”Bless Our Troops,” both in three part harmony.  The choir also sang “A Long Journey toHeal” while projecting pictorial images of the attacks on 9/11 inrecognition of the 10th anniversary of that horrific day.  The Choir concluded their portion of theconcert with “Lady Liberty,” an upbeat tune expressing the symbolization of the Statue of Liberty andthe welcome she offers to all those seeking liberty today.

We would like to thank Mr. Doug Thaman, Executive Director, MCPSA for attending the program and addressing the audience.  We also would like to extend our thanks for the wonderful Marbling Art Presentation, presented by Mrs. Olgundeney. The presentationadded fun and excitement to the evening.

The Third Grade began their program with the song “I’mso Glad to be Here!” complete with dance movements.  They performed the songs “Whomp”and “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” with hand drum accompaniment.The Third Grade dedicated the song, “We Will Not Forget” to theVeterans in attendance and gave the Veterans an ovation after the song. Thenext song was “This Land is Your Land,”  followed by “Gratitude Attitude”where the students named some of the things for which they are grateful such as”pizza” and “a great school.” The Third Grade capped offthe concert with a special version of “The Cat Came Back,” completewith actors, props, and a tenacious cat played by Kyra Collins.  They also present the school anthem,”GSA Rocks” as a finale to the concert.
