GSA Virtual Summer School Academy Description June 15-June 26, 2020

Gateway Science Academy is pleased to announce that we will offer a Virtual Summer School Academy experience for currently enrolled GSA students in grades K-8. The dates for the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy are June 15-June 26, 2020. Students will be given extended opportunities to gain mastery and further their understanding of core concepts in ELA and Math. GSA students will participate in online learning that includes whole group instruction, guided practice, and small group/individual conferencing opportunities. This instruction, practice and conferencing will include skill review and remediation for students. Fun and exciting enrichment learning opportunities will also be provided to our students during the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy. As an added incentive, students that actively participate in Zoom sessions and complete and submit all assignments will receive special recognition that may include a gift card, dress down passes, etc.

What will students do during the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy?

Each day of instruction will be scheduled to provide whole group instruction through Google Classroom and Zoom, including guided practice opportunities using Zoom meetings. Teachers will then follow up with students in small groups using Zoom and individually to determine to understand, reteach as needed, and provide feedback on performance. Telephone calls will also be used to assist students individually and to provide specific feedback on student work and progress. Students will be assigned skill practice through online resources, such as RAZKids, iReady and IXL, STEMScopes, Aleks, and will also be asked to submit assignments through Google Classroom or Dojo. Teachers will also be able to provide written feedback regarding student assignment submissions through Google Classroom or Dojo.

 

What online resources will be used during the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy?

Students will access online programs that have been used during the 2019-20 school year. Those programs include RAZ Kids, iReady, and IXL at the elementary level for students in grades K-5. IXL, iReady, ALEKS, and STEMScopes will be used at the middle school level for students in grades 6-8. Students will continue to access these programs using their current usernames and passwords. Additional online resources may be used at the teacher’s discretion. Log-in information will be shared with those students as needed.

I don’t have a computer for my student to use and don’t have Internet access at my home. Is my student still able to participate in the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy?



Families are asked to let us know of any needs for a computer or Internet access on the Virtual Summer School Academy registration form. GSA school staff will assist families with this as needed.

 

My student will be entering GSA in the Fall of 2020. Are they able to attend the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy in June 2020?

Due to the need for Summer School to be offered in an online platform, the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy will only be available to students currently enrolled for the 2019-20 school year. 

 

How do I register my student for the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy?

Registration forms are available on the links embedded below and will need to be submitted electronically. Summer School registration forms are due by June 1, 2020. Students that register after June 1, 2020, must provide their own electronic device and Internet access to participate in the GSA Virtual Summer School Academy.
