Mayor Slay visited GSA on January 7th

Mayor Slay visited GSA on January 7th to sign a bill for the addition of a new stop sign in our community. Fourth graders from GSA visited City Hall in November to present the bill. We as GSA family happy to be part of such a wonderful cause to help build our community. .

Home Visit to Mr. Merchant, 2010-12-17

GSA is committed to visit homes and reach out parents to further explore ways to better educate our students. We do appreciate our parents being so welcoming and hospitable. If you have not yet heard from us, we will knock on your door soon.  

Scholastic Book Fair

GSA held its first book fair in the first week of December. The fair was a huge success! The total income was over $6000. GSA will get back nearly 60% to begin building our school library. Food Drive

GSA donated hundreds of non-perishable food items to Epiphany Church’s St. Vincent dePaul Food Bank.  This was the result of our Halloween “dress-down” and our Veterans’ Day Concert.  Fr. Tom, Pastor at Epiphany was very grateful for our contributions to the local community.

Law Enforcement Day

GSA celebrated Law Enforcement on  Friday, November 5th. A police helicopter flew into our field and students had an opportunity to speak with the pilots. A robotics team brought along a robot; student and staff toured the bomb squad van. The SWAT team and a police dog were also in attendance. .  

Weekly Parent Breakfasts

Weekly Friday breakfasts have been scheduled with each home teachers.  While everyone enjoys a nice breakfast, so many bright ideas have brainstormed by attendees to establish a successful GSA.    

Waiting for Superman

On November 23rd GSA students and staff attended a showing of  Waiting for Superman at Frontenac Plaza. 180 students, fourth grade through seventh grade, watched the movie about education and its many downfalls and struggles.
