Service Learning Club makes and serves a meal to those in need

On Sunday, November 4th, 2012, Mrs. Jones’ Service Learning Club at GSA middle/high school volunteered with The Bridge, an organization that provides services for the homeless and “at risk.”  The group of students, parents and staff helped prepare and serve a meal to those in need.  The group helped serve over one hundred people!  Two weeks ago, the club members participated in “The Walk” with The Bridge.  A man who was formerly homeless and used to receive services from The Bridge took the students on a walk around the downtown area.  He showed them the buildings and organizations that provide services to people who are homeless.  This was a great learning experience to prepare them for volunteering in the kitchen.

GSA recognizes the importance of volunteering and teaching students to be actively involved in the community.  In addition to The Bridge, the Service Learning Club will be volunteering with the Animal Protective Association, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services and providing services to GSA.  The students also plan on organizing a holiday donation drive.
